No one in the technology world would ever confuse the annual National Restaurant Association Show with something like the Consumer Electronics Show, but high tech has become an increasingly bigger part of the dining industry expo.

GrubHub, the nation’s leading online and mobile food ordering service, today announced the release of its new OrderHub tablet technology for restaurants.

Since its founding, GrubHub has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in orders for restaurants by utilizing restaurant’s traditional in-house technology to transmit and confirm orders: the fax and phone. Through a process developed by GrubHub, orders are faxed to restaurants, and restaurants confirm they have received orders through an automated phone service.

Pizza consumption continues to rise. More than four in 10 (41 percent of) consumers polled say they’re now eating pizza once a week, compared to 26 percent just two years ago.

Pizza consumption has increased over the past two years as leading players revamp menus to include more innovative specialty pizzas, gourmet ingredients, and items beyond pizza that help operators drive traffic.

Wingstop Sales Up 10.5% in First Quarter

Wingstop announced that same-store sales for the first quarter are up 10.5 percent over the same quarter last year. The chain, with more than 500 units, has now experienced positive comp sales for more than eight consecutive years.

In addition to double digit comp sales increases, Wingstop signed franchise agreements that will result in 58 new locations in the U.S., a new first quarter record for the company.

Technology 'Pivotal' to Domino's Success, Says CEO

Speaking to investors during Domino’s Pizza’s 2011 fourth-quarter earnings call, J. Patrick Doyle, the company's president and CEO, said estimated global online sales in 2011 had exceeded $1.8 billion. Further, online sales comprise around one-third of the company's U.S. sales.

Online orders continue to "grow at a steady clip," Doyle said.
